50 years of adventure

The outdoors

January is always a bit too long, with many cold, grey days. Often he first few weeks of the year aren't  about hiking. So when the weather doesn`t allow us to spend enough time outdoors, the next best thing is to talk about walking and listen to experts` stories and anecdotes about the outdoors.

Cicerone Press

The Adventure Travel Show in London was the very place where we could meet other like minded people and talk about travelling and walking.
We spent a day listening to experts` experiences and talking to other Cicerone authors. Cicerone Press is 50 years old this year and the celebration started at the Adventure Travel Show. Here, there were a number of inspiring author talks throughout the weekend and on Saturday evening there was a birthday cake to share. Thanks for all this we left the Adventure Travel Show feeling inspired and itching to go somewhere.

50 years of adventure

During the past few weeks we made plans for the year ahead and read some outdoor books and articles. Shortly after a neat box arrived by post, just before Christmas. It was from Cicerone and the box contained a beautiful coffee table book: Fifty years of adventure 1969-2019. It was a great surprise, and leafing through the glossy pages I was immediately taken to stunning places.
The book is illustrated with over 100 splendid photos.

Inspiration

The fantastic photos urge me to go and explore. The book tells the story of Cicerone from its early years and there are plenty of interesting stories from Cicerone authors. The book contains four main chapters; Adventures in the UK, Adventures in Europe, Adventures worldwide and Mishaps and misadventures.

There are short stories that I can read while I am having my morning coffee, preparing myself for a grey winter day. This book hasn`t got a place on the shelf yet. It lies on the coffee table waiting to be picked up; and if only for a few minutes at a time, it takes me to wonderful places.
