Camping El Cid in Peñíscola

Peniscola

Location

Camping El Cid is the perfect campsite to stop for a few days if you are on a long journey or you can spend your entire holiday there as there is plenty to do in the area. Located just outside of the charming town of Peñíscola with its long sandy beach.  We spent three days at Camping El Cid in December during our 4-week long winter campervan trip in Spain.
From the campsite you can walk or cycle to the heart of Peñíscola and to the long sandy beach that are less than 3km away. If you wanted to drive in, there were plenty of parking available along the promenade in December, also probably there are less during beach season. From Camping El Cid you can visit Peñíscola castle, wander the narrow streets of town, or why not relax on the beach and try some local sea food in one of the numerous restaurants in town. If you want to go for a walk or bike ride, the Irta Natural Park has a great network of walking and biking trails.

Camping El Cid plots

The campsite

The plots are generous in size and are divided with hedges, providing plenty of privacy. As it is common practice in most campsites in Spain there are plots that are rented out for long term, often throughout the year. Electricity is available on all pitches and a tap with drinking water is located at the end of each row of plots.
At Camping El Cid, you will also find 14 cabins and 3 retro caravans on site where you can spend a couple of nights if you don’t have your campervan or tent.

Facilities at Camping El Cid

The shower block was always clean, with soap and paper towel, and most importantly with hot water at any time of the day. The hot shower was especially welcomed at the end of each day as we stayed in there in December.
Washing machines were available to use and sinks to rinse your clothes. There are of course separate sinks for washing dishes, and there is a spacious barbecue area with picnic benches. Obviously, the large swimming pool and the smaller pool for kids were closed as it was December, but it must be lovely and well used in the summertime. We didn’t get to try the food at the restaurant but there is a restaurant/bar onsite if you don’t want to prepare your own food or go into town.

Summary

Camping El Cid has everything that a good campsite should have for a comfortable stay, and we should also mention that the staff were always friendly and very helpful. It seemed to be a family friendly place, and you won’t have to leave your four-legged friends at home either as Camping El Cid also welcomes your pet.
